About MLWG

Welcome to the Main Line Writers Group Blog.

We offer a safe and supportive place for writers of all genres and experience levels to better their craft.

Every third Wednesday of the month, writers from the group gather together to learn something writing-related and gather with like minds.

This blog offers a taste of the various genres and talents that exist within the group. From fiction and non-fiction to business and technical writing, our group members do a lot of writing.

Monthly programs

On an every-other month schedule, we offer programs featuring guest speakers who present on a variety of topics. Past topics have included comedy in writing, script-writing, a self-publishing panel, on-line writing communities and many others.

During the intervening months, we offer writer critiques. Attendees are welcomed to bring eight copies of a complete story or an excerpt that is approximately 5 pages in length, double spaced. Some writers come with a piece to be critiqued and critique others; some attend to perform the critique only. There’s a lot to be learned from the process, even if you don’t bring a piece with you.

You don’t need to submit your piece in advance, just bring it with you to the group that evening.

Bonus critique program

Just to confuse you a little, we also offer a special critique on those months we don’t hold a regular meeting critique. This is a longer format critique of up to 15 pages. The session is limited to 10 people and the piece must be submitted at least a week in advance.

Come to whatever meetings interest you

You don’t have to commit to coming to all of the programs and critiques. Attend the ones that interest you the most.
